I have the honour to transmit for
Your Lordship's information the enclosed copy of a minute
from the Director of Public Works dated the 30th. of last
June and to inform you that, the matter being urgent,
I
have communicated with the Governments of Singapore and of
India to ascertain whether the services of three really
capable Chinese or Indian Land Surveyors are available.
The third Surveyor is required to fill a vacancy caused by
the death of an Indian Surveyor employed in work connected
with the resumption for and laying out of Scavenging Lanes
under the Buildings Ordinance. The Officer has hitherto
been paid for out of the vote for compensation for such
purposes.
2.
The terms proposed were 3 years'
agreements at a salary of $1,320 rising to $1,560 by $120
biennially
